Helping Parents become strong and confident advocates for their children is a key role the Area Board takes seriously. It is difficult to train parents that being "strong" does not mean that one must be rude or obnoxious !Just as we want our children to be knowledgeable, so too must an advocate not only be knowledgeable about the law but in their ability to work effectively with teachers and other district personnel.
Our advocates have always worked in a collaborative fashion with school personnel. There is no question that the role of educators today is difficult at best and without question if we, as parents, can support and collaborate in building a stronger team to support our children - we hold an obligation to do just that.
There is no question that parents are the most knowledgeable person regarding their children. Think how powerful that level of skill is in helping to create a successful educational
environment. Blending that skill set with those of well trained educators will always lead to successful children.
